The Generationals at Bimbo's 365 Club Celebrating Their New Album, Heatherhead

On Sept. 16, the Generationals performed at Bimbo’s 365 Club. The indie pop band is on a U.S. tour for their new album, Heatherhead (2023). Their new album is upbeat and fun, with a similar vibe to their classics but revamped with a modern twist.

The Generationals have a well-deserved devoted fanbase. One couple I met flew to San Francisco all the way from Vermont just to see them live. It was clear that the audience knew every single song they played. There was buzzing excitement between songs, and widespread cheers when they played the first note of each song. By the end of the show, the entire crowd was headbanging to their upbeat indie pop.

The production of the concert was beautiful, but still simple enough to let the music speak for itself. With string lights illuminating the back of the stage, and spherical paper lanterns hanging down, the color and stage design was well-designed and beautiful. However, the central focus was the music.

The members of the band rotated between instruments. Additionally, two of the members each sang throughout the show. One of my favorite aspects of the show was that they switched off because it gave different parts of the show such distinct sounds and feelings. And, each member knew the music on each instrument like the back of their hands.

Overall, the Generationals were very fun live and their fans were unbelievably passionate and friendly. Bimbo’s 365 Club is one of my favorite venues in San Francisco because of its cool interior and its great options for both sitting and standing room. It was perfect for a fanbase like that of the Generationals because it allowed for fans to interact and socialize with one another, which created great vibes among the audience.
