The Portola Music Festival drew thousands to Pier 80 in San Francisco last weekend, on September 24th and 25th. The Berkeley B-side spoke to some of the festival goers. Here are the people of Portola:

Where are you coming from this weekend?

I am a San Francisco local.

Who are you excited to see?

The people I am most excited to see are DRAMA, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Kaytranada, and Bob Moses.

How has the festival been so far?

For a first-time festival, the crew is inexperienced. There are not enough water stations and shade. But the rest is incredible.

Nelson Mandela (Mandela is the middle name)

Where are you coming from this weekend?

I’m a travel nurse from Delaware, but I am working at Stanford at the moment.

Who are you excited to see?

I am new to the whole rave atmosphere but am most excited to see Toro y Moi

Any final thoughts?

Let’s keep it going. It’s the first year [of the festival] and with how lit it’s been so far, it’s been good. Let’s keep it going.

Where are you coming from this weekend?

San Francisco

Who are you excited to see?

For Saturday, The Avalanches and Jungle. For Sunday, Channel Tres

How has the festival been so far?

The acts are better than the production. Seems very much [like a] first or second time [festival] promoter, but didn’t put together a good production.

Where are you coming from this weekend?

San Francisco

Who are you excited to see?

I came for Charli XCX, and Arca has been my favorite so far.

How has the festival been so far?

I had a good time. It’s giving if the men from Hayward came and are trying to do Berlin. There have been mosh pits trying to get into stages [the entrance to Charli’s show was very packed]. It is the first year so they are trying to work on the kinks.

Where are you coming from this weekend?

Los Angeles

Who are you excited to see?

I am most excited to see Yves Tumor. I saw them for the first time in LA last November at a theater. Also Charli XCX.

How has the festival been so far?

I am excited about the festival because it is its first year. The stages are a little close to each other. No complaints though. This is my first time in San Francisco and I came for this festival.
