If you want to see a genre-bending set full of surprises, head to James Blake, Mura Masa, and PawPawRod. James Blake has collaborated with artists from countless genres, ranging from work with Bon Iver to SZA to Travis Scott. However, his live production is not only unique because of his diverse discography, but also because of his chilling vocals. For a genre-bending set with rap, pop, hip hop, and funk influences, head to Mura Masa. Seeing Mura Masa in both a club setting and at Coachella 2023, his two sets were worlds apart; his club set was all house and techno, while his set at Coachella featured fantastic vocalists and many of his hit songs, including “Love$ick.” Finally, head to PawPaw Rod for an alternative indie vibe. PawPaw Rod has found fairly recent success with his 2020 single, “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS.” Known for great crowd energy and his unique voice, PawPaw Rod’s set is a must-see of the weekend.

Additionally, Lightning in a Bottle features some extraordinary deep house sets. In particular, I’m most excited for Nimino and Bob Moses. Nimino’s live set will give the audience a reflective experience, with deep yet uplifting sounds and likely a fairly simple, yet perfect, production. Nimino’s live sets will bring a strong uplifting feeling of community to every crowd. Bob Moses, on the other hand, will likely have danceable deep house with a stronger bass and fantastic vocals. His live sets have infectious energy, bringing the entire audience dancing together.

Two special members on Lightning in a Bottle’s lineup are the dance music icons Skrillex and Fatboy Slim. Skrillex released his first EP in 2009 and has found immense success since. Even today, it is undeniable that his work with Fred Again.. and Four Tet sent shockwaves not only through the EDM community, but also through Gen Z as a whole. Personally, Skrillex live has been on my bucket list for years, and I’m sure his set will not disappoint. While Skrillex is one of the most iconic names in dance music, with dubstep and trap influences, Fatboy Slim has also been an icon within the EDM community since the 1990s, predominantly known for his big beat work. From his 1995 debut album, Better Living Through Chemistry, to his 2014 hit, “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat,” to his 2023 work including “Sex on the Streets” and “Prasing You,” Fatboy Slim’s discography is full of gems. Fatboy Slim is a musical genius and a veteran in the dance community–he will have a set that you won’t want to miss.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with any act on the lineup at Lightning in a Bottle, but these six sets are at the top of my list. You can see more information about the lineup and buy tickets at https://www.libfestival.org/.
