Mindwinder Cuco signs seven-figure deal with Interscope Records

Latinx singer Omar Banos, or Cuco, has just signed a cool seven-figure deal with Interscope Records. His manager Doris Muñoz confirms that the choice was a long time coming after a bidding war between four different labels.

Interscope A&R executive Carlos Cancela saw Cuco perform at The High Hat in L. A. two years ago, and “a week later Doris and Cuco came to my office and we talked about life, music and we played records back and forth.” Cancela thinks “Cuco is a genius,” and has waited patiently to give the artist space before this momentous event that both parties deserve congratulations for.

Cuco joins a team that represent artists Kali Uchis, Juice Wrld, Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga, and U2. Though it is glamorous and impressive to be amongst this lineup, signing for Cuco wasn’t ever about the sake of representation, rather, “Interscope understood what I wanted to do creatively and it wasn’t just about money. I got everything I wanted.” The artist signed onto a joint venture license deal with the goal of releasing an album during each contract period with an alternative delivery commitment – so, as long as Banos releases a certain contracted number of songs, they can be in any “various configurations.” Muñoz also confirms that the multi-instrumentalist, “owns all of his masters,” which is essential since he has been making music DIY style.

In conjunction with these agreements, Banos will expand his reach to Latin America via Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Cancela confirms that fans can anticipate his first album to be released this summer.

Though this is a major event for the artist and his career, his same ethos focused on creativity seems it will persist, as “the people I work with are like my friends and that’s really cool to have.”
