The highly anticipated new single “Sucker” by the Jonas Brothers has many long-time fans feeling reminiscent of their elementary and middle school days. The last time the band released any music was back in 2010 with their album Jonas in L.A. for the Disney Channel show, “Jonas.” They disbanded three years later.

Since then, they’ve each had their own solo projects. Joe found success with his band DNCE, with hits as “Cake by the Ocean” in 2015 and “Body Moves” the year after. Nick dabbled as a solo artist with songs like “Jealous” and “Close,” featuring Tove Lo. He also appeared in the film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017 and recently married Indian actress Priyanka Chopra at the end of 2018. Kevin Jonas stepped out of the spotlight to create his own real estate and marketing companies.

 While each member saw their own success, they couldn’t shake the legacy left to them by their family band. No one can resist singing “red dress” like Nick when “Burning Up” comes up on a throwback playlist. 2008 saw the Jonas Brothers wearing purity rings and speaking out about saving themselves for marriage. This all became widely joked about in 2013 when a sex tape was leaked revealing Joe Jonas’ interest in BDSM…

It’s been years since the brothers worked on music together, though their sound remains very much the same. The new song’s more mature vocals and advanced instrumentation showcase how much they’ve evolved over the years. Still, the upbeat, boyband flare that made their teenage success remains. It’s hard to resist getting up and dancing once the chorus begins, or get it out of your head after hearing it for the first time.

The music video alone shows off how much the Jonas brothers have grown since the last time they were in the spotlight together. The couples are adorned with elegant Baroque-esque attire as they prance around a palace drinking champagne in bathtubs on the front lawn. Subtle references to Joe’s “scandal” in 2013 and the explicit sexual tension between the brothers and their partners tell the audience they’re no longer the Disney stars we knew and loved. In 15 hours, the music video had gained 9 million views on Youtube and was #1 on the site’s trending page. All the ‘90s and 2000s kids are digging up their Jonas Brothers memorabilia, waiting for what 2019 has in store for their new incarnation.
