Despite seeing the Regrettes perform live thrice before, I still found myself in awe of the energy and enthusiasm the four-piece group brought on stage with them to the Voodoo Room at House of Blues San Diego on Saturday night. After a kinetic opening performance by Halo Kitsch and a humble final soundcheck during which crowd members burst with affection and excitement, the Regrettes played their way through a setlist of crowd favorites and new material. A notable inclusion on the setlist was their upcoming release “You’re So Fucking Pretty,” performed by front woman Lydia Night who tugged at the heart strings and desires of the crowd when performing the band’s pleasantly slower, delicately powerful upcoming single. The band finished the show off with a unique act of care and empowerment, calling all the girls to the front and into the pit while asking everyone else to make space for them so they can finish the night dancing and moshing to the Regrettes’ popular single “Poor Boy” in a space that they are not always welcomed into. While I am not quite sure when I will see the Regrettes next, I have a feeling I will still find my socks knocked off at the end of the show by the band, who seemed to have as much fun being there as the crowd that filled the air with screams of excitement even after the night came to a close.
