After playing the Oakland Metro Opera House with Hop Along, Waxahatchee played a second East Bay show on Upper Sproul as part of SUPERB’s Spring 2014 concert series. Berkeley locals, The New Tenants, opened the show for the touring band. Besides some technical problems involving speakers, the show ran seamlessly. Favorites such as “Coast to Coast” and “Brother Bryan” were played, along with a limited amount tracks from their older album American Weekend (2012), including “Be Good” and “Rose, 1956”. As usual, Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) delivered an outstanding vocal performance of poignant, lyric-centric ballads. The band played variations of many of their tracks from Cerulean Salt (2013), including the song “Swan Dive,” which featured guitar riffs and heavy drums, unlike the recorded version.
