“Outta Town” starts slow, with an easy melody and a simple drum line, the occasional synth teasing the ear — up until you hear the adlib, “Tommy!” at 27 seconds in. And then the beat drops.
Tommy&Company is the stage name of 22-year-old producer, musician, and fashion designer Tombogo. In recent years, the Oakland native has made a name for himself in the Bay Area music scene, often producing for Oakland rapper Elujay or spinning at various events around town. His sound merges touches of the most poignant indie influences of yesteryear — he cites The Killers and Fall Out Boy — with the iconic “hyphy” vibe of the Bay, moving audiences in every way with his almost-jazzy production and syncopated beats.
For “Outta Town,” Tombogo — alongside producers Ian McKee and BassHunt, who hails from his production team, &Company — aimed to recreate the feelings of wonder, love, and sheer euphoria that accompany youth. The single, originally premiered on SF Weekly, is the first released off his upcoming debut EP, Get Out, expected to drop later this summer.
