This Friday one of the most exciting acts in punk today is coming to The Fox Theatre in Oakland. FIDLAR embodies the fun loving, yet angsty and tired nature of the skate punk scene. Their name serves as an acronym for “F**k it Dog, Life’s a Risk”, the mantra that underlines their lyrics. Fans of FIDLAR have been left on the edge of their seats as the band released a single the Alcohol in April 2018, and are expected to release their third album in January. The new album Almost Free (2019) is supposed to be the most complete and cooperative album yet. They have become more focused on their art and less focused on the party as frontman Zac Carper has gotten older and stopped abusing harder drugs.
Expect this not only to be a fun band but a fun crowd as well. FIDLAR is known for energizing the crowd and their fans are infamous for the rowdy mosh pits that fit the fast paced anthems which bring out the pop in punk.
FIDLAR should be enough to draw you to the Fox Theatre on November 2nd, but the openers, Dilly Dally and The Side Eyes, should be enough to get you to come early. The Side Eyes are an exciting, female-led, so-cal, punk quartet and Dilly Dally has just released an excellent second album, Heaven (2018), that vacillates along the lines of punk and indie rock.
I hope you come to the Fox Theatre on November 2nd, I know I’ll be there. Buy tickets here.
