It’s festival season! Coachella just ended, and Outside lands looks to be sold out, but your next best summer festival is just a trip to Monterey away. The 5th Annual California Roots Festival is heating up for Cal students this Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25, and it’s just in time for a post-finals celebration. The full line-up is now online and it promises to bring the summer fun. Bay Area regulars Rebelution and Iration are booked for the festival, along with with DJ Mackle. They’ll be playing in the midst of unique activities, making it an event that everyone should experience least once. California Roots combines staples of summer festivals, like a plethora of bands and plenty of sunlight, as well as a varied list of food and beer vendors, and in-house arts guests. Live painters Anna and Elizabeth Randolph will make an appearance, and early risers will have the chance to take morning yoga classes with Rebecca from The Yoga Paradigm. This mix of food and mood sets California Roots apart. It’s even got a strong environmental ethos: one of the most important California Roots vendors is The Offset Project, which promotes green products and a zero waste standard. The festival is a true mix of arts, music, and global consciousness. Single day and weekend passes are selling out quickly, according to Tuesday’s low ticket warning. Find them on the Roots’ Eventbrite page while they’re still up. And don’t worry about a ride: the festival is participating in RideShare to help fans get there. Also catch Rebelution, Iration, and DJ Mackle with Stick Figure and The Green on tour with each other after the festival this summer in support of Rebelution’s upcoming album, Count Me In. They’ll be playing at the Greek Theatre on August 16th, so if you don’t get your fill at the festival, catch them again before hitting the books. Both summer shows will bring some relaxation and good vibes. We’ll see you there!
