When we think of the holidays, we think of quaint family gatherings, bountiful feasts, and warm gatherings by a fire. Live 105’s Not So Silent Night sort-of abides by these holiday traditions, if you consider fellow rock heads family and a jam-packed stadium a warm gathering. Year after year, Not So Silent Night never disappoints. With an onslaught of rock performances spanning up-and-coming artists, starring returners, and the classic sing-alongs, it surely is one of the best ways to ring in the holidays.
This year we were treated to X Ambassadors, Foals, CHVRCHES, Halsey, Silversun Pickups, Bastille, Death Cab for Cutie, and the headliner Weezer. In previous years, such a line-up would have to be broken into two days, but this year Live 105 got creative with a rotating stage set-up, cutting the time between sets down to seven or so minutes. Rock streamed in a continuous blast, appeasing all fans who grew tired from standing endlessly between sets.
Some of the most notable performances of the night included Foals, CHVRCHES, and Weezer. Foals maintained high energy levels and lead singer Yannis Phillipakis hopped off stage to meet the crowd. CHVRCHERS brought an intricate light set-up which only complimented front-woman Lauren Mayberry’s charm and command of the stage. And of course, Weezer would close the night with a set that only prompted sing-alongs: “Say It Ain’t So,” “Beverly Hills,” and to close the night, “Buddy Holly.”
Keep it up, Live 105; we’ll see you again in 2016.
