On April 21st, UC Berkeley’s school spirit celebration, Cal Day, took place. The event occurs every Spring, openly inviting newly admitted students to the campus. The school’s entertainment team Superb Productions hosted artist Cuco, where he played a free to the public, all-ages show on the exceptionally warm East Bay afternoon. Working under a moniker, 19 year old Omar Banos is an L.A.-based producer and multi-instrumentalist. His DIY approach to producing his own sounds and music, and emotive approach to his lyricism has garnered him rapid recognition. On his synth experimental tracks, he sings in both English and Spanish on love: for his girl, his homies, and most recently, a dedicated track for his Honda in “CR-V.” What separates Cuco as a young artist is how his sound is simultaneously simple and layered, with lyrics that are introspective and honest.
