Basement Jaxx return with energetic set at Public Works

On Friday night Basement Jaxx took a break from their latest tour to entertain the Bay with a quick DJ set at Public Works in San Francisco’s Mission District. The Grammy-nominated British duo held down the venue, its packed crowd inside the envy of a line that was out the door most of the night. In front of a large light rig with lasers positioned right behind the pair’s head, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe were positioned at their turntable/synth array. The pair were dressed in printed shirts, not exactly befitting the new genre of music they’re known for.

They worked hard to make the evening as fun and engaging a show as possible, capitalizing on the stage lights for maximum effect, and their EDM upbringing shined through with songs chosen for the setlist, which was filled with the biggest hits from the past twenty years of their career. Best among them was “Romeo” from their 2001 album Rooty, the crowd — based on their reaction — conferred. Other highlights that followed included early career cuts “Jump n’ Shout” and “Where’s Your Head At.”

Basement Jaxx are currently in the middle of a worldwide tour with dates throughout the rest of 2015. Their latest and seventh studio album Junto was released last year.
