Mistaken For Strangers

Fast off a two-day showing of the must-see Slint documentary, San Francisco’s Roxie Theater has another treat for rock film fans. Starting tonight March 28th through April 3rd, Bay Area audiences can view Tom Berninger’s much-lauded music-themed flick, Mistaken For Strangers.

The film follows Tom and his brother Matt Berninger, lead singer of The National, on one of the band’s popular tours.

According to recent press on Mistaken For Strangers, everyone from Michael Moore to Pitchfork are big-upping the flick. “It’s one of the best documentaries about a band that I’ve ever seen,” said Moore, while Pitchfork promised it might even top the meta-commentary and hilarity of Spinal Tap.

With those kinds of high-praise plugs, we’re intrigued.

Join us for the two premiere screenings of Mistaken For Strangers tonight at 7:00 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. at San Francisco’s oldest (and coziest) continually operating theater, The Roxie. There will be a matinee Q & A with director Tom Berninger on Saturday, March 29, at 3 p.m. After you enjoy this weekend’s screening, you can repeat view it throughout the week with your friends, who will be thoroughly impressed by your awesome film pick.

Don’t worry if you’re still new to The National’s music. As Gabe Toro of IndeWire writes, the film’s “thrilling and candid on-stage footage… allows the band’s music to come alive.”

“If you weren’t a fan of [the National] before,” says Toro, “you will be after the film.”
