Five Weekend Show Picks to Kick the Drizzly Weather Blues

Future you, just about ready to impress the world this weekend.

Let’s face it Bay Area: It’s Saturday, it’s still raining, and you’re sick of staying in on your couch for another browse-only session with good-old Netflix. Besides, didn’t you buy those fancy rain boots for just this reason?

Here are five shows happening this weekend to get you excited about putting on your best and popping that umbrella.

SATURDAY

What better way to start cutting through any drizzly blues than with a benefit show called The Great Grate Whoopee at The Great American Music Hall. DJs, a Tribute to Phish, and a mood-setting acoustic set fill out this feel good bill. The “great” part? It’s a long night, so you won’t have to risk getting too too wet by venue hopping. You’re set with music, art, and sweet relief from 6pm through midnight, a solid deal (and a great cause) for only $40.


DJs of Poolside are featuring at Mezzanine tonight, and opening are a team of Disco-kissed dance acts. With Vito & Druzzi of The Rapture, Gotta Dance Dirty‘s Tropicool, and veteran producer DJ Dials, you won’t have time to feel anything but an urge to move to the beat. Check the 444 Jessie St. location starting 9 p.m. for a night of shaking away the rain.

If you’ve been missing that Smashing Pumpkins CD you lost on the way back to school, well, maybe it’s time to replace it with a new buzzy & angsty favorite anyway. Nineties-esque alterna band The Cold and The Lovely are at the Mission’s El Rio tonight, and at a quick eight bucks, so are you.

SUNDAY

If you’re opting to not cross the that bridge into the city, Oakland’s got a couple of Sunday gems for you.

Dana Salzman is performing lounge-y hip hop at hometown reliable The New Parish.

And Oakland Metro Operahouse has a quartet of noisier acts taking the stage: Anti Fade‘s Living Eyes, Alcatraz, Bricktop No Limbs, and Your Enemy are all set to break a sweat on Sunday. $15.

So take your pick. But whatever you do, don’t let that already spoiled couch hoard all your warmth.
